In fairness to Fields
Most QB's have at least a whole drive to get into a rhythm. Bringing him in for one play at a time has proven not to work. And that's not unusual for QBs, particularly freshmen. Give him the ball 1st & 10 on our own 30 or so, let him hand off a couple times, then make a couple of easy throws, and then start giving him some of that situational stuff.
But as far as our goal line ineffectiveness, that's just a head scratcher. We road grade people everywhere else on the field. There's really no rational reason the 5 yard line should change that. We don't need to get cute, we just gotta block people.
