20 names Georgia football fans need to know for the 2020 recruiting class
So we’ve decided to lay out 20 names that Georgia fans need to know for the upcoming class. Kirby Smart and company won’t land all of these players. Some of them may end up going to rivals. But given what DawgNation recruiting expert Jeff Sentell has already said or written about these guys, we think Georgia fans should be aware of who is on the Bulldogs’ radar for the year ahead.
The recruits are broken down into a Georgia commits, in-state players and out-of-state players. And the list of 20 doesn’t even include players like 4-star running back Seth McGowan or recent Georgia de-commit Warren Brinson. It looks like the Bulldogs will have a number of talented players in the class once again in 2020:
Broderick Jones, 5-star offensive tackle, Lithonia, Ga., (Lithonia, Ga.,) No. 24 overall player *Committed to Georgia
Georgia is going to need a left tackle to replace Andrew Thomas should he leave early for the NFL draft. Jones could be a possible replacement, as the mammoth offensive tackle is already drawing rave reviews.
What Sentell says: 5-star junior OT commit Broderick Jones feels ‘pretty amazing about Georgia right now’
Jamil Burroughs, 4-star defensive tackle, Powder Springs, Ga., (McEachern), No. 55 overall player *Committed to Georgia
Kirby Smart brought in a stellar defensive line class in 2019, and you can bet he’s going to do the same in 2020. It starts with Burroughs, who has been committed to Georgia since August. The nation’s no. 55 overall player was a fixture at Georgia home games this fall.
What Sentell says: 4-star Georgia DT commit Jamil Burroughs on Rihanna, dance moves and how much he loves his Mom
Nazir Stackhouse, 4-star defensive tackle, Decatur, Ga., (Columbia), No. 191 overall player *Committed to Georgia
Stackhouse was first in the boat for Georgia’s 2020 recruiting class, as he committed to Georgia all the way back in December of 2017. He’s a huge Georgia football fan, in addition to being one of the state’s top defensive prospects
Arik Gilbert, 5-star tight end, Marietta, Ga., (Marietta), No. 8 overall player
If there’s one player Georgia absolutely cannot miss out on in 2020, it’s Gilbert. He’s the No. 1 player in the state and an absolute freak of an athlete. He also would fill a massive need at tight end. He’s listed as an athlete, but he’s the highest rated tight end prospect of the past decade, topping former Bulldog Isaac Nauta.
What Sentell says: Nation’s No. 1 ATH Arik Gilbert continues to appreciate UGA as his first offer
Myles Murphy, 5-star defensive end, Powder Spring, Ga., (Hillgrove), No. 13 overall player
Murphy isn’t too much further down the wishlist from Gilbert. He’s a monster athlete, and with him being an in-state guy, he’s another guy Georgia can’t afford to miss out on.
What Sentell says: 5-star junior DL Myles Murphy clocked a 4.6 in the 40 at UGA this summer
Tate Ratledge, 4-star offensive tackle, Rome, Ga., (Darlington School), No. 45 overall player
Ratledge is a big-time tackle prospect for Georgia. The Bulldogs are going to face some major pressure from Alabama and Tennessee for his services, but Georgia fans know that offensive line coach Sam Pittman can never be counted out.
What Sentell says: Elite tackle prospect Tate Ratledge had a block straight out of Hollywood
B.J. Ojulari, 4-star outside linebacker, Marietta, Ga., (Marietta), No. 84 overall player
If that last name looks familiar, it’s because it is. Ojulari is the younger brother of Georgia redshirt freshman linebacker Azeez Ojulari. Azeez impressed in the Sugar Bowl against Texas, and that had to catch the eyes of his younger brother. Ojulari is also teammates with Gilbert, along with a host of other highly rated players out of Marietta High School.
Zykeivous Walker, 4-star outside linebacker, Elliaville, Ga., (Schley, Ga.,), No. 142 overall player
Walker’s recruitment has blown up in recent months and Georgia is already putting on a full-court press to land him. He might play at a small school, but he’s a big-time talent for Georgia.
What Sentell says: Tiny Schley County has produced quite a find in stout DE Zykeivous Walker
Bryan Bresee, 5-star defensive end, Damascus, Md., (Damascus), No. 1 overall player
Bresee, aka The Godfather, is the nation’s no. 1 overall player in the 2020 class. He’s already made multiple visits to Georgia, and the Bulldogs are very clearly in the running to land the nation’s No. 1 overall player, again. Georgia signed Nolan Smith in the 2019 class, and he and 5-star defensive tackle Travon Walker have made Bresee a priority for Georgia.
What Sentell says: Nation’s No. 1 junior Bryan Bresee still has UGA very much on his mind
Zachary Evans, 5-star running back, Houston., (North Shore), No. 2 overall player
After only landing 4-star running back Kenny McIntosh, running back is going to be a position of need for the 2020 class. Georgia wants to land multiple 5-star prospects. So where better to start than Evans, the nation’s No. 1 running back. He visited Georgia back in January.
Julian Fleming, 5-star wide receiver, Catawissa, Penn., (Southern Columbia), No. 5 overall player
A lot was made by the No. 1 ranked wide receiver in the 2019 class about how Georgia didn’t throw the ball enough. But the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2020 class doesn’t have those same concerns. And per Sentell, Georgia is in this recruitment more than some might think.
What Sentell says: Julian Fleming, the nation’s top junior WR, counts his UGA trip among his best visits
DJ Uiagalelei, 5-star quarterback, Bellflower, Cali., (St. John Bosco), No. 7 overall player
Georgia needs a future starting quarterback in this class. As of right now there isn’t a better one in the 2020 class than Uiagalelei. Clemson will be a team to watch here, but Georgia has made the early cut for Uiagalelei’s services.
What Sentell says: Nation’s top junior quarterback DJ Uiagalelei sees UGA as a ‘championship’ program
Kendall Milton, 5-star running back, Clovis, Cali., (Buchanan), No. 11 overall player
Another 5-star running back to watch for the Bulldogs. Running backs coach Dell McGee has already made Milton a priority, and the 5-star running back says there’s a lot to like about the Bulldogs.
What Sentell says: California 5-star junior RB Kendall Milton says UGA has ‘major shot’ to sign him
Justin Rogers, 5-star offensive guard, Oak Park Mi., (Oak Park), No. 14 overall player
Rogers could play offensive line or defensive line at the next level. But he’s a big fan of Georgia, and he was high school teammates with 2019 Georgia signee Dwan Mathis.
Mekhail Sherman, 5-star outside linebacker, Washington DC., (St. John’s College), No. 15 overall player
Another player from the DMV (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia) area that Georgia is targeting. Georgia figures to be selective with outside linebacker prospects in 2020, but there might not be a better one than Sherman.
Marshawn Lloyd, 5-star running back, Hyattsville, Md., (Dematha Catholic) No. 23 overall player
As of Feb. 8, Lloyd might be the front-runner for the 5-star running back Georgia is mostly likely to land. He visited Georgia in January, and if you’ve paid attention to either Sentell or DawgNation’s Brandon Adams, you know this is a name that Georgia wants bad for the 2020 class.
Fred Davis, 5-star cornerback, Jacksonville, Fla., (Trinity Christian Academy), No. 30 overall player
Georgia has made it a habit in the last two recruiting cycles to pull a big-time cornerback out of Florida as it landed Tyson Campbell in 2018 and Tyrique Stevenson in 2019. And new defensive backs coach Charlton Warren will look to do that with Davis in the 2020 cycle. Davis took notice of when Warren became the Bulldogs’ defensive backs coach.
Jermaine Burton, 4-star wide receiver, Calabasas, Cali., (Calabasas), No. 58 overall player
Burton has ties to Georgia before moving to the California this past year. With Georgia landing George Pickens, Dominick Blaylock and Makiya Tongue in 2019, wide receiver might not be as big a need, but the Bulldogs still would love to have a guy like Burton on the outside.
Robbie Ashford, 4-star quarterback, Hoover, Ala., (Hoover), No. 140 overall player
This might be the biggest quarterback name for Georgia fans to follow with Pickens — Ashford’s High School teammate — now a Bulldog. He’s set to decide in March and will pick between the Auburn and the Bulldogs. Georgia’s did very well in the state of Alabama in 2019 and will look to do the same in 2020.
What Sentell says: Alabama native Robbie Ashford: ‘I love Georgia’
Jacolby Criswell, 3-star quarterback, Morrilton, Ark., (Morrilton), No. 356 overall player
Another name to watch at quarterback in the 2020 class. Georgia is going to need to its quarterback of the future in this class and Criswell could be that guy
