DC candidate off the market
From FootballScoop:
Georgia Southern will hire Tyson Summers as its next head coach, sources told FootballScoop Sunday.
Summers is currently the defensive coordinator at Colorado State, though he spent the entirety of his career prior to this fall in the Southeast. A Presbyterian graduate, Summers served as Central Florida’s defensive coordinator from 2012-14 and, prior to that, spent five seasons on staff at UAB, the final as defensive coordinator.
He also deposited one season as safeties coach at Georgia Southern, graduate assistant stints at Georgia and Troy, and one season as defensive backs coach at his alma mater. Summers’ coaching career began as defensive backs coach at Georgia’s Tift County High School in 2002.
Summers replaces Willie Fritz, who left earlier this month after a 17-7 two-year run to become the head coach at Tulane.
Georgia Southern’s hiring of Summers fills every FBS head coaching position at this time.
