I tried a Mohu
and was less than impressed.
I had been using a small rabbit ear type antenna that came free with one of my TV's for a while, just as a backup for when cable went out. Someone told me about the Mohu Leaf antennas so I got a Leaf 50 from Best Buy. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is what a piece of junk it looked like: flimsy construction, rinky-dink cable, little-bitty amplifier, etc. It just looked like a piece of garbage. Anyway, I hooked it up and tried it in several locations and it actually pulled in FEWER channels than the free rabbit ears. I called the Mohu support line, and they were nice enough, and offered a couple suggestions, but nothing helped. So I took it back.
I called Mohu back because they said they had a sale on their top-of-the-line Sky 60 antenna which was only $10 more than the Leaf 50 from Best Buy (regular price was about twice as much). They said it had the latest technology and could pull in more channels than any other antenna available. I installed it in my attic, but same story: cheap construction, poor quality materials, worse performance than the rabbit ears. I called Mohu back again, and they looked up my address in their database and this time they gave me some line of nonsense about there being a big hill between my house and a couple of the TV broadcasting locations. I told the lady on the phone that my neighborhood is at the highest elevation in DeKalb County other than Stone Mountain (which is true) and got a long uncomfortable pause, then she said I could send it back for a refund - minus the shipping charges, of course. She also couldn't explain why the "hill" didn't affect the rabbit ears.
So after two different antennas, a fair amount of effort, and some money to UPS, I'm still looking for a better solution than the rabbit ears. Not really a horror story, just some wasted time. But I'd like to hear something that does work, because cable is getting ridiculous.
