George Will, in the linked article below, makes some good points. And GW is a conservative. He's not a Democrat in sheep's clothing.
Personally, I'm thinking of sitting this one out. Trump is not a Republican in my view, or at least I didn't think he was prior to 2015. The primary voters, although I get their frustration, have done something that I just don't agree with. I was on board with guys like Bush, Kasich, Rubio, Christie, Pataki, Santorum, etc. These guys are all conservatives, and I think they would've actually tried to govern if elected. I even was willing to work with Ted Cruz if I had to, although I really didn't like him at all. But Trump is a step too far for me.
The bad thing is that this would've been a great year for the Republicans to get back in the White House. Hillary Clinton has made some disastrous foreign policy & national security decisions and will be a bad commander-in-chief. But Trump is not fit to be in the WH, too.
