Former Georgia and Miami Dolphins star Bill Stanfill, who died at age 69 on Thursday, once joked he was going to get a tattoo with two words on it because he had so many scars: "Rand McNally."
Stanfill, the 1968 Outland Trophy winner, had three neck surgeries and two hip replacements as his body wore down from an 8-year career with the Dolphins.
A few years ago, Stanfill told me his legs were numb after enduring so many surgeries. In fact, after he was bed ridden for several days with an unknown illness, he noticed two holes near his ankle while putting on socks. Stanfill said he never felt a rattlesnake bite him while walking on his farm in South Georgia.
