First, let me say that I voted for John Kasich in the primaries, and then Hillary in the general election, even though I think her presidency would've been a disaster.

Trump promised some spending increases for infrastructure & military. He also promised not to touch medicare & SS. He also promised tax cuts. All told, he would've added at least 5 trillion above current law trajectory to our debt, which is actually more debt than Hillary promised to pile up.her proposals would've added some, but not nearly so much because she wasn't going to cut taxes. When you add in Trump's protectionism, and his promises about muslim registries, and spending billions of dollars in a wall and deporting illegals, and alliances with Putin, I think his supporters just voted for a really really big-government guy, certainly not a conservative and someone who is very dangerous. As with most elections, I'd say that 40% of the population are going to vote for the Republican no matter what, just like 40% will vote for the Dem no matter what.

I have to laugh when people think that Hillary would be more corrupt than Trump. She has some potential conflict of interests with the Clinton Foundation that could've been easily remedied. But Trump's business dealings, that he lies about constantly, are something that would put him at odds with the law on day one of his presidency. He still hasn't said he'd divest. So, he'll be dealing with foreign governments and other special interests which will potentially put millions of dollars in his pockets, all while his family continues to run his businesses. His Trump Foundation is a scam. On top of that, Donald Trump is a flat-out pathological liar. Every word that comes out of that man's mouth is complete bulls**t, and even his supporters know that. Throw in the fact that he's spread vicious conspiracy theories, but no, we're supposed to think that Hillary is more corrupt because I guess she had a private e-mail server or something (so did Colin Powell). People want to believe the big lie that might be behind the door, and in doing so, ignore the hundreds/thousands of big lies right there in front of their face via twitter or whatever mode of communication the Orange One chose.

You're right that the Dems are too far to the left. But the Republicans are now in the throes of insanity to have nominated a guy like Trump. And I guess now that he won the election by 70,000 votes in PA, Wisconsin & Michigan, the rest of the country has to deal with it.

Hillary would've been a disaster as president. Trump will be much worse. I spent much of the primaries and the general election in denial about the public's ability to be sucked in by Trump. No more. We have to take him very seriously, for the better and (unfortunately) the much worse.
