My mom, Toine Ashley, passed away peacefully last night at 10:10 Est. She fought lung cancer since early December and lived to be 1 week from 77 years old.

She was one of the biggest Bulldog fans I ever met. She graduated from UGA with a dual degree in Education and Home Economics in the first year the colliseum was opened in 1964. She met my Dad at UGA and they married in 1964 also. Her 3 sons attended UGA and 2 of their wives and 2 grandsons are currently enrolled.

Mom helped me on my 6th grade project about being a champion. I met Vince and Barbara Dooley at his house, met and interviewed Herschel, Lindsey, Buck, Woerner and Nate...all gracious with their time. I was scared to death, but Mom gave me the nudge and the courage to pursue it. She also introduced me to Loran Smith and others.

I will never forget the countless ball games we attended, the free shakers, the Spagetti house after the games, the lime sherberts, the celebrations if wins and agony of losses and that damn traffic outta Athens. We went crazy when UGA blocked a punt to go up on Bama late in 1985, then Shula casually beat us with a very late TD. Never forget 1980-82 and that run.

Mostly, you guys need to know she was a special Dawg and loves all things UGA. I hope she is in Dawg heaven now! Thanks for letting me share.
