Arkansas in 1968/69 was bad. I think Texas was the worst.


West Virginia was similar to Texas, but at least in that one we came back and started to play better. In the WV loss we obviously didn't have the defense prepared at all and don't even bring up the fake punt.

I was bitter about the 1969 game against Arkansas. I was young at the time and couldn't believe that we lost. The team wanted to go to the Orange Bowl and it showed that day. They played hard, but were distracted and turned it over 8 or 9 times.

The first Pitt game, the Panthers just had a better team. In the second Pitt game and the Penn State game it was losing close games against great teams. We were also great, but just lost great games. We did start slow against Penn State though. It took Dooley and company a while to realize that they were tough on D and had stacked the line against Herschel. When Vandy, UK,etc did that we could still blast through. Not so with Penn State.

They just didn't show up against Texas and it was very embarrassing.
