1st game, and we took care of business
We were the only ranked team in the country who opened with a conference game on the road. That's not an insignificant point. It's pretty obvious that once the game was well in hand, we went vanilla and started playing everyone. And the game was well in hand. Our 1st three drives were as methodical and soul-crushing as you will see. Vandy had nothing, and never mounted anything even resembling a threat after we made it 21-0. Kirby wasn't going to run it up on Mason, but we still covered. Fromm finished the day hitting 65% with a TD & no picks for a 135+ rating. Swift had 150. Herrien added 65 and a score. Zamir averaged 10+ per. Cager, Jackson, Landers, and DRob all had multiple catches. Almost everyone who made the travel squad played, including a LOT of Freshmen, first year guys, and/or guys seeing their 1st significant action. Guys like the aforementioned Zamir, Cager, and Landers, as well as guys like Ojulari, Cine, Pickens, Stevenson, DJ Daniel, Wolf, Nakobe Dean, J.Johnson, Divaad Wilson, Travon Walker, and Nolan Smith. We ran for 325 and had nearly 500 of total offense. We were 5 of 6 in the red zone, had only 2 lost yardage plays the whole game, and only punted twice. And perhaps most importantly, we had no major injuries.
This was a business trip and we got the job done. We have a couple weeks to iron out the wrinkles. Lets see what we have vs Notre Dame.
Edited to add:
And keep in mind we won by 24 - we've won by a bigger margin in Nashville only once since 1993.
