Some really interesting comments coming out of Kirby now that
the press is finally asking the right questions. When asked about scheming around the issues on OL, DL, DB, OLB & WR, Kirby has basically said that they guys have to get better and play better. Now you can interpret that a couple of ways.
One is that Kirby is being too stubborn and trying to fit too many square pegs in round holes instead of adapting our schemes to more zone blocking, max protect, zone defense, etc like the previous staff did instead of playing man up ball.
The other however, is that Kirby appears to be quite aware of both the problem and that kind of fix and is rejecting it because he believes that the players are just close enough and can be coached up enough to play the schemes the new staff is trying to implement. He's remarked several times lately that the players are making the plays, catches, blocks, tackles, etc in practice but no so much in the games.
Only time will tell if he's right or wrong in his approach.
