UGA/GT: It's that time of year again
Hello Dawgrun,
I hope everyone is well and looking forward to a good game this Saturday. Hard to know what to expect. Here is a quick report on GT.
This has been a very strange GT offense. Very different than previous editions under Paul Johnson. The offense has created a ton of big plays, but struggles to run the ball between the tackles. The between the tackles is probably due to combination of Thomas limitations running between the tackles and struggles on the OL. The true freshman BBack Mills is very talented and a tough runner but has struggled to stay out of trouble and in the lineup. Keith's little brother Marcus has plenty of big play ability, but he struggles with the tough yards and with his blocking.
The Passing Game has been exceptional for GT. Thomas is really doing a great job throwing the ball and the OL has given him time to throw.
Bottom line, GT cannot beat UGA with big plays alone. We have to get those tough yards and put together some drives and I haven't seen anything to make me believe that will happen against UGA's defense.
On the defensive side of the ball, GT is pretty much as bad as they've been most years under Johnson. The DL is limited and the LBs have played poorly behind them. Nauta and McKenzie should have HUGE games. The goal for GT on defense most weeks is to force a couple turnovers and a handful of punts. If GT needs the defense to do any more that, we're in trouble.
This game will come down to the turnovers and big momentum plays. I believe you win with defense, so I like UGA probably by 7-10 points all things being equal. Early momentum and turnovers will be huge in this one.
