The rankings matter more and more with each passing year because

the services are continually getting better at evaluations. Result of more and more info out there with which to evaluate and money. The services have bigger staffs. More info + more analysis = better predictions. Almost a third of 4 & 5 star kids being drafted is pretty compelling.
