I had pretty high expectations to start the season, but the offense didn't look all that great against Vandy, so there was that lingering something in the back of my head, and I mentioned it to my sons and wife. And, you could see just a slight hint of some run blocking issues even against the tier 2 schools. Then, the ND game. The offense wasn't all that crisp then either. Something just wasn't right.

Well, the offense finally got exposed against Carolina, and of course the TO's killed them too. Take the TO's away, and the Dawgs win that game. But still, there was, and still is some issues.

The UK game was a washout, but they did recover enough to get the 3 TD's in the second half. But STILL...

So, I imagine there were some doubts about the UF game. I sure had my share. But, with the off week, that gave Kirby and his staff enough time to get everyone settled down, and they put together a very good football game to win in Jax. Play calling, TO's and penalties, as well as some inexperienced WR's were all, and still are part of the problem with the offense. Special teams play has been bad at times too, and we all know what that can do for a team.

So, now I start thinking about the defense. Obviously, they have done well enough to limit the other team from scoring much, and the zero rushing TD's is amazing. But, the passing defense looks to be a bit soft, and I believe that's what our opponents will try to attack. Dawgs need more pressure on the other team's QB, and they need it NOW. The DB's play a bit too far away from the WR's and that might hurt too. Very little in the way of interceptions, and fumbles recovered, and that needs attention too.

So, yes, there are issues, but even so, this team is sitting at 7-1, with a great chance to play for the SECC again, not to mention a shot at the CFP. It may not have been very pretty, but here we are.

Much left to go up against. Mizzou can, and has given the Dawgs hell several times since 2012. Auburn at their place, and they get a bye week before that game. Then, there's A&M. And, even yech at their place could be a close fought game...even though I don't see it that way.
