We are just having a ripple effect of the inexperience at WR...

...it is like a revisit to coach Smart´s first season on offense (2016) when Jacob Eason was spotty at times and even Nicholls State challenged us. It is pretty much all our opponents have in their attempts to keep even with us, and that is sell out and crowd the box because so far they haven´t respected our passing game. Sooner or later that will reach tipping point to our advantage but we just have not been very deep at WRs who can actually step in and effect the game. That will often make an average defense look better, and a great defense look outstanding. In our last three games in which Jake Fromm has completed 50 percent or less of his passes, he was going up against not only some good defenses but also some of the better pass efficiency defenses in Missouri, Auburn and Texas A&M. Some would say, well how about Florida, they were pretty good pass defense, too, right? Only that Florida plays more zone and less press, and we had Lawrence Cager for that whole game. Our top QB recruit (Beck) had an oustanding junior season in high school but started out rough his senior year because of the same issue, which is really interesting. Beck will arrive fully aware of the need for chemistry with WRs. Without chemistry, and that takes a while (sometimes longer than a season), even an experienced QB will look out of rhythm. There will be fans, and there have been so far this year, who complain that with our recruiting we should have no drop off, but actually that does not account for timing, experience and chemistry between QB and WRs. I would caution that even had Georgia convinced a few underclassmen to return for the 2019 season, and even if JJ Holloman had not gotten into trouble, and even with the nice additions of Cager and Wolf as transfers and Blaylock and Pickens as freshmen, those last four would still have needed to develop chemistry, and Georgia still would have faced some stronger defenses than usual, on top of which had bye week advantages. The one thing that this team has done without the WR depth as a luxury that the 2017 team had, was to go on the road and beat an SEC West opponent staring straight down the offense´s neck and yet we scored 3 passing TDs to win the game! At some point, hopefully soon, this 2019 offense will reach a point where everything comes together.
