A view from afar
Hello again, Dawgrun. It has been a while since I last posted. It is the same for any fan, I would imagine, that this year has been difficult to comprehend.
First of all I would like to address the team. I thank them for competing and their effort thus far, but they would be the first to admit that they have been part and parcel in the losses this season. To that I will cut them some slack because, unlike some who ridiculously went by recruiting ratings to presume the UGA roster was superior to most of its 2016 opponents, I looked a little deeper than the fluff and saw several major issues.
Fact is, this roster has huge holes in it. Our new coach Kirby Smart nailed this point down in his first days here in telling us that our line of scrimmage was vastly undermanned. In particular, our offensive line. He did not sugarcoat it or mislead us. Coach Smart told us straight up what the biggest critical area was for most of us to see if we only would.
As for the staff, I hope that Smart and his assistants do not start buckling to the pressures of unhappy fans and keep doing what they have been doing. I say this because the last thing we want our players to see is weakness and oscillating command decisions from their coaches. I am happy if we win more and am just like most in utter disbelief that our players would not respond to the challenge of playing well enough on Homecoming Saturday. I do not pin that on the coaches whatsoever.
Players, you guys will either begin to play like you are adaptive, respectful and intentional as a team or you will let this season continue to regress. There is no excuse for this. Despite our shortcomings on the roster, Vanderbilt had even less of a roster and came in with a travelling squad (i.e., even fewer players) and embarrassed your butts in front of your families and friends.
UNACCEPTABLE.
Now, having said all that, the way to go is not to unravel further. Go out there and play a damn good game for once against the Florida Gators, unlike the past two years. And no matter the final score, build on that.
