Well, the rules say ...
...that the home team must provide a clearly visible and properly functioning game clock. I'm not sure if there's any exact verbiage for the situation in our game, but I believe it could be argued that failure to provide the clock could be interpreted as a technical foul against the home team. What I am sure of is if this had happened to Kentucky, there would have been absolute hell to pay for everyone anywhere close to that sideline. The SEC office would have been involved immediately and no one would have left the floor until some "amicable" resolution was reached. Either a) assess the aforementioned technical foul, b) allow Maten the 2 free throws, or at the very least c) put the 5.6 seconds back on the clock and we get the ball out of bounds. But instead Fox gives a wave of his hand and heads off to the locker room.
All that being said, it in no way absolves us of the pitiful final 10 minutes and even more pitiful final 2 minutes of that game.
