Told this story a couple of times over the years...

Apologies to anyone to whom it may seem redundant.

I'm pretty good friends with a few top SC HS coaches around the state. One has been down around the Charleston area for a long time. During Park's recruitment, I of course hit these guys up for their opinions. The Charleston guy flat out wanted nothing to do with him. "Head case" is the term he used. Lots of raw talent but intangibles like character, leadership, & film study were real concerns. This from a guy who hangs out with JP's coaches, had been around Park a lot during camps & some practices.

My other buddy coaches in the northern part of the state, but has excellent contacts with the SCu coaching staff. He said flat out there are reasons Spurrier was not even recruiting the SC POY and none have to do with talent.

(An aside, Spurrier took 3* Conner Shaw at or around the same time we took Park. Shaw turned out to be one of the toughest SOBs in the SEC, a total gamer, & an unbelievable leader. Incredible record as a starter. Now collecting an NFL paycheck. He's considered by many the best QB in cock history. Ol' ball sack got the best out of that exchange program.)

Pretty much says it all... Why did we recruit him? -- AthensDAWGGA 02/28/2017 8:34PM
