Ray is a good guy, but just wasn't ready for that position at that time.

And you hit it on the head, we screwed ourselves on that hire. We had hired DIck Sheridan from NC St (and Furman prior), but looked like a bunch of amateurs by blabbing the news after agreeing to wait until after NC St's bowl game, so Sheridan backed out.

Impossible to know how he would have done at UGA, but interesting to wonder.
