Least prepared guy to take over an SEC job since?
The man just was in no way, shape, or form ready to be an SEC HC. The gamecocks will argue Brad Scott was worse prepared, OC @ FSU before Richt, and that has some merit when you hear what happened behind the scenes with his atrocious handling of assistants.
But Goff just wasn't ready, his organizational skills were awful. His recruiting was incredibly lazy. He put forth a fraction of the effort modern coaches do. He had no desire to "beat the bushes" to find good developmental players to fit any kind of system. Instead, he just sat back and recruited the regional kids on whatever schmuck's all-star team. SuperPrep. Prep Star. Forest Davis. It was a disaster. We sign guys like Chad Chooswood when tons of good Ga OL prospects never even got scouted by UGA. Lazy. The defensive talent & coaching were among the worst in Georgia history.
Thankfully he had 3 local offensive superstars as good as any FB players in America fall in his lap and cover his coaching, organizational, & recruiting deficiencies for a while. Those guys were amazing.
We didn't do him any favors. He wasn't nearly ready. Too young, too inexperienced, no idea how to run a big time program. I much prefer to remember him as a good guy, SEC POY, and great ambassador for the university.
