At least if history is any indication.
There have been a total of 37 coaches who have won the SEC Championship. That's all coaches, not just rookie coaches (the SEC trophy doesn't care if you're a rookie or not). If you look at the team's win total from the year before each one of them got there, only 7 failed to equal or better that win total within their 1st two seasons. Those 7 are: Frank Thomas, Bobby Dodd, Paul Dietzel, Charley McClendon, Johnny Majors, Bill Curry, and Mike DuBose.

Bottom line is that if Kirby doesn't win at least 10 games this year, history says he'll most likely never win the SEC.
