After you get past the first 15-20 picks, there’s not much difference in talent in the next group of guys. The scouts have a pool of maybe 60-70 guys who are nearly identical in talent level to fill those last 40-50 picks. What did Thornwell do this year, from a pure talent perspective, that he hasn’t done most of his career? Answer is not much. He shoots it about as well, etc. What differentiates guys with similar talent levels - who are in that pool of 60-70 guys, is being able to elevate your teammates, and win games. That’s exactly what Thornwell did this year, and that’s what Trey and Travis would have been very likely to do with a guy like KCP on the team.
