Yeah, it’s always something

I don’t think very many people outside of our program will buy into the “lack of talent” argument. We’ve had too many top 10 recruiting classes and have sent just too many guys into the NFL. Sure we have weaknesses here and there, but so does every program outside the elites like Bama & Ohio St. Certainly Vanderbilt, gtu, Nichols State and Missouri do.

And why is it that when we have a Fr QB, it’s an excuse for us to lose, but when we play someone who has a Fr QB, they beat us? Fla killed us in 2014 with true Fr Treon Harris - making his first EVER start no less. They fired Muschamp two weeks later after losing to South Carolina to go 5-4 with 2 games left in the season.

Then Fla killed us the next year with 1st year coach McElwain. McElwain killed us again last year with Luke freakin’ Del Rio. Are you kidding me? That was his 1st year at Fla, and his 1st year starting. And yes, McElwain had coached before. He took over a 3-win Colorado St program, and won 4, 8 then 10 games his 3 years there. He improved the teams’ win total every year. That’s what good coaches do. You mention Jones. He went 8-6, 8-5, and 11-2 at C.Mich, and 4-8, 10-3, then 10-2 at Cincy. He took over a complete mess at ufk and has won 5, 7, 9, and 9 again. He's improved each year at every stop.

But back to Kirby, he didn’t HAVE to play the freshman. We had a graduate senior who was 11-2 as a starter, but didn’t take a single meaningful snap after the North Carolina game - which perhaps not coincidentally, was arguably the best game we played all season.

Good coaches just win. Consider this: in the entire history of the SEC, there have been 37 coaches who have won an SEC Championship. 28 of those 37 either equalled or bettered the teams win total from the year before in their 1st season at that school - including every one since 2000. Of the 9 who didn’t, almost all of them took over a mess such as probation, scandal, or just plain not winning. None of them took over a 10 win program and lost 5 games their first year. None. So if Kirby is to win an SEC Championship, he’s going to have to do something that no one has ever done in the history of the SEC.

Excuse me if I don't hold my breath.
